Judith Szabo


Judith Szabo is an award-winning leader in strategic, crisis, risk, and change management communications serving private, public and not-for-profit clients globally for close to three decades.

A former journalist and broadcaster, Ms. Szabo specializes in handling complex files and sensitive issues. Judith has worked with the Prime Minister’s Office, Heads of State and senior management in over 25 countries. She is highly regarded for her political astuteness and for her strong managerial capacities to handle several projects concurrently.

Recent projects include Senior Special Advisor to the Coordinator of the United Nations Peacekeeping Defence Ministerial at the Department of National Defence in Ottawa. She is also concurrently advising the Government of the Republic of Mauritius on risk communications, branding and outreach to launch the country’s first early-warning and emergency alerting system for all hazards.

Ms. Szabo has recently completed projects on strategic & risk communication and disaster risk reduction for Global Affairs Canada, the World Bank, the UN, the EU and IOM. She worked on the first Sustainable Blue Conference in Nairobi, the African drought crisis in Kenya, the war in Afghanistan, the Pakistan IDP crises and Presidential election, and on Canada’s G8 and G20 Summits.

Over the last decade, Ms. Szabo has managed strategic/risk communications, and public information and education on four UN contracts in emergency warning systems, tsunami and coastal hazard preparedness, and disaster risk reduction for 17 countries in the Caribbean, and the Central and South Americas regions.

She is bilingual in English and French, and holds a ‘secret’ Government of Canada security clearance.

Ms. Szabo earned a Bachelors degree in Journalism from Concordia University (Montreal, Canada) and a Master's degree in Public Administration from Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada). In 2013, she received certification on managing and facilitating complex change in large organizations. She also holds a certificate in International Gender Training.

In 2008, she was one of the three people in Canada chosen by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) to complete a Certificate in Public Information for Stand-by Partners for First Line Communications Response in Disasters and Complex Emergencies.
