Spencer Henson

About: 

I am a Professor in the Department of food, Agricultural & Resource Ecopnomics (FARE) at the Univeresity of Guelph and member of the Guelph Instiutute of  Development Studies (GIDS).  I am an Associated Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) in the UK. My research interests are focused on:

  • Food and nutrition security, including market-based approaches to reduce miconutrient deficiencies.
  • Trade impacts in developing countries of food safety and other standards.
  • Public support for internatiuonal development in Canada.

I have undertaken reserach related to international development in over 50 countries, especially in South and South East Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.  M<y work has been in conjunction with numerous organizations including the World Bank, WTO, FAO, WHO, OECD, Oxfam GB, Oxfam International, etc.

In my research I apply advanced statistical and qualitative methods, including to the analysis of the impact of development [policies, projects and programs.
