Brief Description

Executive Director

Justice Education Society

Location: Vancouver, BC

The Justice Education Society creates innovative programs and resources that improve legal capability and increase access to justice – in BC and internationally. Since its start in the 1970’s, the Justice Education Society has matured into an extremely capable and viable organization that truly makes a difference in people’s lives, while supporting social justice and democracy here and abroad.

The Justice Education Society operates in three main areas – educating people (particularly our youth) both in person and online about the justice system here in BC and Canada, providing a wealth of materials relating to the law and targeted to a lay audience, and promoting access to justice internationally, particularly in fragile democracies where this is key to individual’s lives and futures.

With the retirement from the role of the founding Executive Director, the opportunity now exists for a lawyer, educator or organizational leader versed in how the justice system works to take the Justice Education Society to the next level – to make an even greater impact in the years to come.

The ideal candidate brings leadership experience gained in an organization that will have parallels to JES, including but not limited to a continuing legal education society, a legal advocacy organization, a Law Society, an international justice-related organization or relevant legally focused or education organization. Alternatively, he or she could be a senior partner of a law firm or bring senior leadership experience gained in a public or private sector organization where a deep knowledge of social justice issues relating to access to justice systems, here and abroad are in evidence. Team leadership, strategic planning and best practices around management are essential.

This is an amazing leadership opportunity to impact lives in BC and around the world.
