Alinea is currently recruiting an Urban Development Expert for a 3 year EU tender we are pursuing. 

Summary of Project:

The overall objective of this project is to lead and develop decentralised international urban cooperation between local authorities from the EU and Asia (India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Vietnam) and Australasia (Australia, and New Zealand).

The purpose of this assignment is to develop urban cooperation and foment city-to-city partnerships between EU and non-EU local authorities in India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia and New Zealand in order to exchange best practices and knowledge towards improving cities sustainable urban development.

Specifically, the assignment shall contribute to build a strong network of local authorities built on trust, friendship, solidarity and spirit of cooperation with the EU, and which can be activated and used to exchange information, transfer know-how, and promote business development and research activities in the benefit of citizens and cities’ prosperity.

The Position: Urban Development Expert (Based in Japan)

The urban and regional cooperation expert is responsible for providing the technical inputs to the project, in particular support the elaboration, implementation and co-operation on Urban Cooperation Action Plans (UCAPs) with Japanese cities.

Qualifications and Expertise:

  • University degree at master's level in social sciences, political science, international studies, economics, communication, geography, urban planning/development, architecture, or engineering.

  • Minimum ten years’ experience in fields related to the assignment.

  • Minimum five years’ experience in fields related to sustainable urban development in Japan.

  • Having undertaken at least one assignment in at least 1 project of at least 1 year related to cooperation between sub-national entities and/or their groupings.

  • Experience in working with the research community, private sector and financial institutions in the field of sustainable urbanisation, will be considered an asset.

  • High proficiency of written and spoken English and Japanese.
