Programme Committee December 2022

December 21, 2022

The mandate of the CAIDP Programming Committee is to help CAIDP members to remain professionally relevant by providing the knowledge, skills, and tools by preparing and disseminating media content through CAIDP social media channels.

During the most recent quarter, the Programming Committee coordinated the production of two webinars:

  • Afghanistan: Prospects broadcast on August 9, 2022, which looked at the current situation in Afghanistan and prospects for the future. Our distinguished panel was moderated by Dr. Nipa Banerjee, facilitated by Sanjar Sohail (an Afghan-Canadian journalist) and included Ambassador Javed Ludin, former Minister of Rural Affairs, Mohammed Ehsan Zia, and Ms. Fawzia Koofi an author, former Member of Parliament and former member of the Peace Negotiating Team representing the former Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The panel examined the current state of the Afghan people, the capability of the Taliban Government and their policy directions and how Canada might engage with Afghanistan in the future. The webinar is available on CAIDP’s YouTube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0NzWiDAQVo.

  • A presentation of GAC’s new Overseas Assignment Directive (OAD) replacing the Technical Assistance Handbook (TAH). The new OAD was presented by Mark Dillon and David Cleary of Samson Associates. Documents associated with the presentation are available on the CAIDP website at https://www.caidp-rpcdi.ca/resource/new-overseas-assignment-directive-oad.

Looking ahead, the Programme Committee is working on:

  • Development of a webinar to look at disinformation and its impact on International Development.

  • A re-examination of the challenges facing international development professionals in their activities as the world emerges from the COVID pandemic and the emergence of conflict zones and economic uncertainty.

  • The development of a CAIDP Conference during 2023.

If you have suggestions for topics for the development of webinars or other media products that would be of interest to CAIDP Members, please contact the Programme Committee via caidprpcdi@gmail.com using “Suggestions for the Programme Committee” in the Subject line.
