AMBASSADOR AND PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF CANADA TO THE UNITED NATIONS IN NEW YORK/AMBASSADEUR ET REPRÉSENTANT PERMANENT DU CANADA AUPRÈS DES NATIONS UNIES À NEW YORK
Marc-André Blanchard was appointed as Canada’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York in 2016. In 2017, he was named as a member of Canada’s North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Council. From 2010-2016 he was Chairman and CEO of McCarthy Tétrault, one of Canada’s national law firms. From 2003 to 2010, he was the Quebec Managing Partner for McCarthy Tétrault while practicing as a litigator and advising companies on strategic issues. He has been involved in some of Canada’s landmark cases and transactions. During his tenure as President and CEO, McCarthy Tétrault was named the most innovative law firm in Canada and one of the most innovative in North America by the Financial Times. Canadian Business identified Mr. Blanchard amongst Canada’s top 50 most powerful business leaders for 2016. In 2013, Mr. Blanchard was named among the 25 most influential lawyers in Canada by Canadian Lawyer Magazine, and Catalyst Canada awarded him the CEO Recognition Award for his leadership in gender diversity. In 2016, he was awarded the distinction of Advocatus Emeritus by the Quebec Bar Association. Mr. Blanchard is a graduate of the Université de Montréal, the London School of Economics and Columbia University.

Marc‐André Blanchard a été nommé ambassadeur et représentant permanent du Canada auprès des Nations Unies à New York en 2016 ainsi que membre du conseil canadien de l’Accord de libre‐échange nord‐américain (ALÉNA) en 2017. De 2010 à 2016, il a occupé le poste de président du conseil et chef de la direction de McCarthy Tétrault, l’un des grands cabinets d’avocats du Canada. De 2003 à 2010, il a occupé le poste d’associé directeur pour McCarthy Tétrault au Québec tout en exerçant à titre d’avocat plaidant et de conseiller stratégique pour les entreprises. M. Blanchard a été impliqué dans des causes et litiges qui ont fait jurisprudence au Canada. En 2013, pendant son mandat comme président du conseil et chef de la direction, McCarthy Tétrault a été désigné par le Financial Times comme le cabinet d’avocats le plus innovateur au Canada et l’un des plus innovants en Amérique du Nord. Pour sa part, le magazine Canadian Business a désigné M. Blanchard comme l’un des 50 dirigeants d’affaires les plus influents de 2016 au Canada. En 2013, la revue Canadian Lawyer a désigné M. Blanchard comme l’un des 25 avocats les plus influents au Canada, et Catalyst Canada, un organisme qui prône une meilleure intégration des femmes sur le marché du travail, lui a décerné le prix d’excellence pour chef d’entreprise afin de souligner son leadership en matière de diversité de genre. En 2016, le Barreau du Québec lui a attribué la distinction d’Avocat émérite. M. Blanchard est diplômé de l’Université de Montréal, de la London School of Economics et de la Columbia University.
