Priority 1: Saving the Canadian Foreign Service

This article from the Centre for International Policy Studies (CIPS) states that "the Canadian foreign service is in desperate condition. If the Trudeau government hopes to achieve its foreign policy objectives, its first priority should be a wholesale reform of Global Affairs Canada that focuses on the rejuvenation of the foreign service." While noting that "GAC served the government well on trade files and consular issues during its first mandate, with strong records of achievement.

A new direction in Canadian development policy - good or bad?

The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), the main delivery agent for Canada's development policy, has undergone a significant change in direction since the Harper government has come to power. A lightning rod for controversy recently has been its new approach to one of the three main pillars or objectives affirmed by the current government - economic growth.

In Defense of CIDA

Canadas foreign aid program has its problems, but they are hardly unique. Nor are they the fault of a single agency. In the attached article, Patrick Johnston of the Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation helps to put into perspective the findings of the most recent Auditor General's report on the CIDA's progress in implementing its aid effectiveness agenda.
