CAIDC welcomes and congratulates New CIDA Senior Vice-President for Geographic Programs Mr. David Morrison

Senior Vice-President for Geographic Programs, Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)

The Canadian Association of International Development Consultants (CAIDC) would like to take this opportunity to welcome and congratulate Mr. David Morrison on his appointment to the position of Senior Vice-President for Geographic Programs of CIDA.  We look forward to more formally welcoming him to his role and working with him in the future.

Mr. Morrison comes to CIDA from the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) where he has served as Executive Secretary since July 2008. His priorities included new programmes to help partner countries respond to food security issues, broadening UNCDF’s network of partners; and continuously improving organizational performance. While in that post, he expanded UNCDF’s work with the private sector, including through innovative initiatives to bring financial services to more poor households and small businesses, and to generate sustainable economic development at the local level.

Mr. Morrison began his career as a UN Junior Professional in North Korea in 1988. In 1989, he entered Foreign Affairs Canada (DFAIT) as a Foreign Service Officer where his assignments included the 1995 Halifax G8 Summit as Policy Staff in Ottawa. In 1995 he was seconded to World Economic Forum (WEF) in Geneva as Director and Member of the Executive Board.

M. Morrison returned to UNDP in 1999 as an Advisor to the Administrator on Strategy and Partnerships, helping to create a new strategy and change process for the organization. From 2000 to 2004, he was President of NetAid, a partnership between UNDP and Cisco Systems to use the Internet to fight poverty. Immediately prior to joining UNCDF he served as UNDP’s spokesperson and Director of Communications.

Mr. Morrison holds a Master of Philosophy degree from the University of Oxford and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University.
