SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

Cowater is recruiting a full-time and permanent Bilingual Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. The Senior Accountant will be reporting to the Director of finance.

KEY RESPONSABILITIES

More specifically, the Senior Accountant duties will include the following:

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepare draft monthly financial statements according to internal and external reporting deadlines;
  • Prepare supporting financial analysis to ensure that monthly financial statements are accurate and complete;
  • Monitor and ensure the timely importing of transactions from all field offices overseas (“field reports”). Review the account coding and post said field reports;
  • Identify opportunities to streamline financial information, enhance financial data collection processes, and shorten month-end; and
  • Prepare supporting documents and schedules relating to the annual audit and annual financial statements. Provide support to the auditors.

Corporate Accounting

  • Develop, document and implement accounting policies and procedures, as well as robust internal controls;
  • Monitor the timely collection of Accounts Receivable;
  • Review account coding prepared by the Accounting Clerk or Project Financial Officers; and
  • Prepare & post monthly accruals.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Assist the Director of Finance to prepare proforma income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows;
  • Prepare short-term cash flow forecasts; and
  • Prepare financial models, business cases, and net present value analyses for potential investments.

Project Financial Administration

  • Financial administration of active projects according to project contracts;
  • Review project expense reports and transactions from field, translate into Canadian dollars as required, and post into head office accounting records;
  • Correspond and liaise closely with field staff on financial and accounting issues, obtain clarifications, and follow up to ensure necessary corrections are made when required;
  • Prepare bank reconciliations for project bank accounts;
  • Verify and code project travel expense reports;
  • Prepare financial reports as required under the contracts with Clients, including, but not limited to, quarterly and annual financial reports, budget variance reports, statements of eligible expenditures, etc;
  • Work with Project Managers on narrative variance reporting;
  • Work with Project Managers to prepare modifications to budgets and sub-project budgets;
  • Prepare invoices and advance requests. Follow up as needed;
  • Closely monitor Client advance balances and request new ones when needed;
  • Provide all required project financial information to Project Managers including, but not limited to, monthly budget variance reports, aged accounts receivable analyses, and other ad hoc requests.

Contract Administration

  • Prepare Requests for Approval as required by the project. Follow up to ensure proper approvals are obtained;
  • Assist Project Managers with contract amendments and/or change orders.
  • Ensure that financial administration and procurement is carried out in accordance with the particular contract.
  • Financial administration of project subcontracts, teaming agreements, and consultant contracts according to the terms and conditions specified therein.

Other Finance Duties

  • Update master files in accounting system (e.g. projects, employees, clients) for changes in master data;
  • Assist Director of Finance with other assignments as required; and
  • Other duties and functions as may be required and directed from time to time.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

An accounting designation (CPA or equivalent);

  • Minimum 3 - 5 years related accounting experience in a similar role;
  • Bilingual in English and French;
  • Excellent computer skills specifically with Excel;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Experience with Deltek Vision software an asset.
