SUMMARY ABOUT THE PROJECT

For an upcoming project in Climate Change Adaptation and Gender Equality in Sub-Saharan Africa, Cowater International is looking for the following specialists to complete its team.

1. Project Manager

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The project manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the project. The PM will be working on a full-time basis in Canada and must be available to travel to Sub-Saharan Africa on short-term missions as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Management of the project team and technical experts
  • Reviewing and ensuring the timely submission of all project deliverables
  • Ensuring the integration of all relevant cross-cutting themes (gender equality, environmental sustainability, etc)
  • Facilitating communications and collaboration with all relevant stakeholders
  • Reviewing, assessing and approving external Requests for Support

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Project Management Professional certification or similar

Minimum Experience:

  • 5 years minimal acting in a Project Management capacity
  • Proven experience leading climate change initiatives
  • References in Sub-Saharan Africa

Essential Skills:

  • Human resources management
  • Results Based Management
  • Review and quality control of key initiative documents
  • Effective communication
  • Strategic planning and financial management
  • Gender mainstreaming and integration of environmental sustainability in project design, planning and implementation
  • Procurement of services and recruitment
  • Monitoring and reporting
  • Fluency in English or French is mandatory

2. Gender Equality Advisor

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The GE Advisor is responsible for providing technical inputs, for the consideration and integration of gender in all project activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensuring the timely submission of all project deliverables
  • Ensuring the integration gender equality in all project activities and deliverables, as a cross-cutting theme
  • Facilitating communications and collaboration with all relevant stakeholders
  • Reviewing and assessing external Requests for Support, ensuring the integration of gender equality considerations
  • Providing recommendations related to gender equality

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Degree in gender/women’s studies or other relevant discipline
  • Additional formation or professional training in climate change, environmental studies or gender equality-related disciplines highly recommended

Minimum Experience:

  • 3 years minimal working as a gender equality advisor
  • Proven experience providing gender equality technical expertise in developing countries
  • References in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Gender equality experience in the field of climate change

Essential Skills:

  • Developing and implementing GE policies and strategies
  • Conducting gender-based analyses
  • Gender mainstreaming
  • Providing gender-equality awareness training
  • Ensuring quality and timely submission of project deliverables
  • Fluency in English or French is mandatory

 

3. Climate Change Policy Advisor

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Climate Change Policy Advisor is responsible for providing technical expertise related to climate change, to project staff and external organizations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assisting the PM in reviewing external Requests for Support
  • Ensuring quality assessment of climate change initiatives
  • Providing recommendations for climate change policies and strategies, based on reviews of best practices and lessons learned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Degree in environment or climate-related discipline
  • Additional formation or professional training in climate change or environmental studies highly recommended

Minimum Experience:

  • 3 years minimal working as a climate change advisor
  • Proven experience providing climate change technical expertise in developing countries
  • References in Sub-Saharan Africa

Essential Skills:

  • Research or analysis of climate change initiatives
  • Providing policy advice
  • Coordination and consultation with relevant stakeholders
  • Project design and planning
  • Climate-related technical assessments of project documents
  • Ensuring quality and timely submission of project deliverables
